Tycoons Remain Undefeated to Start the Season
Monday, 24 October 2022
It was not an easy victory by any means for The Hong Kong Tycoons, as they extended their winning streak to 3 games. Netminder Avery Gobbo, acquired from the South China Sharks in the dispersal draft, made his long awaited debut for the Kowloon Warriors after an off-season injury.
Tycoons rookie Julian Ikeda scored his 5th goal of the season to open the scoring, picking up a nifty saucer pass and sliding the puck past Gobbo. The Warriors tied it up quickly as Elvis Hsu scored on the power play. The Tycoons scored the next three goals as Eshleman, Poliziani and Weberg created some separation on the scoreboard. Warriors forward Willcox stopped the bleeding and brought the game to 4-2 late in the first.
The second period started off quick with Weberg scoring his second of the game on the powerplay. Not long after, Michael Wong put a backhander upstairs right off the draw to keep the game close. Gauis Kwong shortened the lead to 5-4 midway through the second. The Tycoons then scored back to back goals in less than thirty seconds to end the period, with Patty Hayes and Cole Poliziani on great individual efforts, helping the tycoons take a commanding 7-4 lead into the third period.
Warrior Kevin O'Toole scored on the first shift of the third, giving the Warriors momentum going into the final period. Both goalies kept the game close making exceptional saves on both sides. The Tycoons kept their win streak alive as Eshleman scored a bomb of a shot off a big rebound to extend the lead to 8-5, closing out the game.
The Tycoons look to extend the streak to 4-0 this week against a strong Aces team, who should have Jesse Lussier back in the lineup and Boyce Wong between the pipes. Download the CIHL app with the link below to follow the game with Live updates, at 815pm HKT on October 26th, 2022.
