Sharks' Shutout The Warriors For Their 6th Straight Win
May 12th, 2022
The South China Sharks are the hottest team in the league right now as they won their 6th straight game with a 5-0 shutout over the AsiaXpat Kowloon Warriors. Led by Sharks’ goaltender, Avery Gobbo as he stopped all 35 shots he faced. The game was intense and it had a playoff type atmosphere at the Discovery Bay Ice Rink with a good number of fans watching the game. The Sharks also got a boost when Jordan So returned to the line-up and he opened the scoring by beating Warrior's goaltender Ray Loo through his five-hole.
Taking a 1-0 into the second period, the Sharks scored an early goal from Connor Daly as his shot was tipped in accidentally by a Warrior's defenceman past Loo. Loo did his best to keep his team in the game with several key saves but he needed his team to get the offence going.
In the third period, Daly scored his second of the night on a power play as he finished off a 3-way passing play with So and Kevin O'toole. So scored his second of the night on another pretty passing play when he beat Loo on the glove side. Ben MacAskill rounded out the scoring with just over 2 minutes remaining when he fired one through the legs of Loo on a power play. The only remaining business for the Sharks was to make sure Gobbo finished the game with the shutout which he did. This was the first CIHL shutout since the 2019-2020 season when Ashley Bock got one for the Warriors.
