Aces Crush Tycoons in Last Game, Olsen Breaks Goalsl Record

June 23rd, 2021

The Manulife Macau Aces ended their regular season in dominant fashion, displaying a convincing victory over the HKBN Hong Kong Tycoons, showcasing their depth at both ends of the ice. The Aces victory wraps up their regular season, one that saw the club set the franchise record for wins with 12, and points with 26. The Tycoons, following their own final regular season game and loss, will be preparing for an exciting semi-final playoff game against the AsiaXPAT Kowloon Warriors on July 1st. The Aces will be facing the winner of that game on Saturday, July 3rd in Discovery Bay.

A contributing factor to the Aces' victory was the Ryan Chu, Whitney Olsen, and Jesse Lussier line, putting up an impressive 15 total combined points and displaying beautiful offensive chemistry. On the back end, U18 player Yam Yau displayed a mature game and moved the puck with poise.

The Aces got off to a hot start with prolific goal scorer Whitney Olsen netting a single season record-tying 30th goal of the year. 2 minutes later, two-way forward Jonas Mak would respond by burying a quick one-timer off a beautiful pass from Lucas Eshleman. A determined Whitney Olsen would come right back to get his 31st of the year with a one-timer of his own, setting the new CIHL single season goal record. From then on, the Aces would go on a tear putting up 7 consecutive goals to finish off the 2nd period. Goals would come from Ryan Chu, Lennon Au Yeung, Elvis Hsu, Lokel Wong, and Jesse Lussier.

The third period start proved hopeful for the seemingly lost Tycoons, with Jonathan Szychta and Elliot Steele scoring up goals in rapid succession. However, Aces star Jesse Lussier scored on a backhand top-corner snipe for the Aces' 10th goal of the evening, showcasing his elite offensive game. U18 forward Ryan Chu would deliver the final blows by scoring two shorthanded goals, ending his final regular season game with 5 on the night. The final score of the game was 12-4, as the Aces built momentum for the CIHL final.

The game would be each team's final regular season game, with the Aces and Tycoons each off this week. The Scotiabank South China Sharks and AsiaXPAT Kowloon Warriors will battle it out this Thursday in the final regular season game of the year. The Warriors will look to round into form ahead of their playoff clash against the Tycoons, with the winner advancing to face the seemingly unstoppable Manulife Macau Aces in the CIHL Championship game.
