Tycoons Seal Second Place with a Three Goal Win Over Warriors

June 17th, 2021

The HKBN Hong Kong Tycoons sealed second place in the CIHL regular season standings after securing a 5-2 victory over the AsiaXpat Kowloon Warriors, continuing their red-hot form. In the first-round playoff preview, the Tycoons showed impressive attacking chemistry, overwhelming the Warriors in their defensive zone.

The Tycoons got off to a quick start as offensive catalyst Nicolas Weberg netted his 23rd goal of the season, assisted by Lucas Eshleman with an impressive effort from behind the net. It would not take the Warriors long to respond, as under 4 minutes later, power forward Devin Welsh fed a beautiful pass to Conor Daly who buried the goal on the 2-on-1. The Warriors, gaining confidence following their goal, would go on to score 3 minutes later as Francois Esterhuizen found rookie Jonathan Wong who tapped it past goaltender Emerson Keung for the Warriors second goal of the night.

The next two periods proved to be all Tycoons, as they recorded 4 consecutive goals to dominate the Warriors. Patrick Hayes capitalized off a pass from Weberg, which started the Tycoons’ second period with high spirits. 4 minutes later, Tycoon’s GM and attacking specimen Jim Fanstone scored off a smart 5-hole shot as the Tycoons initiated a mass entry into the Warriors zone.

The Tycoons ended the third period with a dominant performance, where attacking cores Weberg and Eshleman each scored a goal to close out the win. Picking up assists in the period were Jon Syzchta and Jim Fanstone with one each, continuing the Tycoons impressive run. The final score would read 5-2 in favor of the Tycoons, as they kept on rolling with another impressive win, their 7th straight, going into their first playoff game.
