Olsen's Five Goal Night Propels Aces to Victory
April 29th, 2021
Last week's second game of the night featured the Manulife Macau Aces coming off back-to-back losses to the Tycoons, versus the AsiaXPAT Kowloon Warriors. The Warriors were feeling good coming off an overtime win against the Sharks from the previous week.
Shane Wyatt kick started the game's scoring in the opening frame with a scramble in front that he placed five-hole, assists on the play went to Jesse Lussier and Tom Allen. David Belluche was up next with a hard snapshot top shelf on a pass over from Jason Klotz to tie the game at one. Whitney Olsen snapped back a mere 12 seconds later with a shot along the ice on a pass from Lennon Au Yeung. Belluche was back again with a similar goal to the first one going top shelf, but this time it was Devin Welsh with the pass in the neutral zone. Two minutes later Belluche finished the first period hat trick with yet another rifle of a shot from the high slot with help from Jake McDonnell. Olsen fired home his second of the night to close off the first period scoring, tying the game at three.
The Warriors got the next tuck on the powerplay, it was Connor Daly with help from Welsh and Connor Quinn. Olsen answered only nine seconds later with a high wrister with help from Wyatt and Au Yeung to complete a hattrick of his own. Five minutes later Olsen was back on the scoresheet with another goal, this time it was Elvis Hsu and Mathew Lee chipping in with assists.
The final period had a lot of quality chances but ended up producing only two goals. The first was Olsen's fifth of the night that he stole in the neutral zone from the Warriors and went down to score an unassisted high glove-side wrist shot. Jason Wong closed the gap to one on a nice pass from Quinn that he snuck past the Aces netminder with a short side low shot. Olsen had a chance for the double hat trick in the open net which he rung off the crossbar that almost turned into a Warriors scoring chance but the clock ran out.
