Tycoons & Aces Battle it Out in High-scoring Affair

Tycoons & Aces Battle it Out in High-scoring Affair

April 15th, 2021

Last week's CIHL game featured a rematch between the HKBN Hong Kong Tycoons and the Manulife Macau Aces. Considering the Tycoons handed the Aces their first loss of the season the week before, this was sure to be an interesting bout.

Jimi Fanstone opened the game's scoring with a high wrist shot from the slot which had assists going to Nicholas Weberg and Aaron Liu. The powerplay goal took advantage of the Mathew Lee hooking penalty. Next up was Lucas Eshleman, he took a shot from the goal line which hit the goaltenders skate and snuck into the net on a pass from Fanstone. The Aces snapped back when Tom Allen passed it up to Jessie Lussier who flashed down the ice, went behind the goal and attempted a wraparound. The puck bounced off the goalie and Oliver Tedja put home the rebound. Shortly after, Patrick Hayes passed it over to Jonathan Szychta who took a shot on net which created a juicy rebound for Preston Kwok who immediately buried it. Elvis Hsu finished off the scoring in the opening frame with help from Lussier and Allen.

One minute into the second Eshleman made a nice pass from behind the Aces net out to Szychta who put it home, second assist went to Weberg. Not much longer after that, Lussier carried the puck towards the net where he got knocked down, bounced back up and circled behind the net and banked the puck off the goalie for an unassisted tally. Next Weberg walked in and quickly changed the angle to let go a low snap shot which handcuffed Liam Moorfield-Yee, the lone assist went to Matthew Nuttall. Fanstone was up again, Eshleman passed the puck to him in the slot and he went low blocker for his second of the night. Near the end of the period there was a scramble in front of the Aces goal which ended with Eshleman finding the puck and firing it home for the Tycoons 7th of the game. Assists went to Weberg and Fanstone.

The scoring didn't stop there, Elliot Steele drove the net and had a nice toe-drag that he finished off with a backhander into the top corner. Helpers came from Szychta and Hayes. After that, Elvis Hsu had a shot on net which was rejected, but Allen slammed home the rebound and the second assist went to Matthew Lee. Next, Alan Chan passed it up to Lussier who made a textbook cross-ice pass to Whitney Olsen who placed the puck into the open side of the Tycoons net. Then Weberg set up behind the net and made a nice pass to Eshleman into who was open in the slot for his third and the Tycoons' ninth of the evening, second assist to Nuttall. Olsen finished the game with two late goals to complete the hat trick but it was too little too late as the Aces were trailing by four. Lussier assisted on both and Allen and Lokel Wong helped out on the first and second respectively.

The final score was 9-7 Tycoons meaning a whopping 16 goals were scored on the night. A tough night for the goalies but these highly offensive teams are both hard to stop especially when they are on. Emerson Keung had 29 saves on the night while Moorfield-Yee stopped 38 at the other end.
